چکیده
calf is placed in an individual pen, 5 by I o by 3 feet, where it remains until it is 4 to 6 months old, depending on the size of the calf. Moving the calf and its pen, preferably uphill, once each week, takes the calf away from its contamination before too many of the oöcysts sporulate. The calves are not completely freed of infection, but they swallow enough oöcysts to get slight, nonclinical coccidiosis and to develop sufficient immunity to be resistant when they are placed on pasture, unless the pasture is heavily contaminated by older cattle. Calves raised in portable pens and then placed on pasture are no more susceptible to coccidiosis and other parasitic diseases than are calves raised in individual stalls in a conventional calf barn. Besides preventing clinical coccidiosis, portable pens reduce the transmission of w^orm parasites and many other infectious diseases of calves. As 317

Isolation and G-typing of Rotaviruses from diarrheal Calves in Tehran and Alborz provinces, Iran
Rotaviruses group A are the major cause of diarrhea in calves under one month and every year causes enormous economic losses. Serological and molecular techniques can be used for rapid detection of rotaviruses but virus isolation requires specific methods of cell culture and suitable cell lines. In this study, 41 samples were collected from diarrheal calves up to the age of one month, from indu...
متن کاملIsolation, Molecular Identification, and Antibiotic Resistance Profile of Salmonella Typhimurium Isolated from Calves Fecal Samples of Dairy Farms in Hamedan
Introduction: Calf diarrhea is one of the significant problems in dairy farms associated with treatment costs and reduced livestock production. Salmonellae are among the most common and the major causative agents of diarrhea in calves and humans. The present study was carried out to isolate and identify Salmonella in fecal samples of calves in industrial dairy farms of Hamedan and to determine ...
متن کاملSome serum acute phase proteins and immunoglobulins concentrations in calves with rotavirus, coronavirus, E. coli F5 and Eimeria species
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in the serum concentrations of haptoglobin (Hp), serum amyloid A (SAA) and IgG, IgA in calves with diarrhea caused by rotavirus, coronavirus, Escherichia coli F5 and Eimeria species. The experiment was carried out on 40 diarrhoeic and 10 non-diarrhoeic calves (group C). A total of 13 calves were infected with rotavirus or coronavirus (group ...
متن کاملCorrelation between neonatal calf diarrhea and the level of maternally derived antibodies
Passively acquired antibodies through colostrum will protect calves against etiological agents of neonatal calf diarrhea. Among them enteric diseases due to strains of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) are the most commonly occurring form of colibacillosis in newborn calves. Specific antibodies against whole ETEC cells and total immunoglobulin G in dam serum, colostrum and calf serum were...
متن کاملThe effect of respiratory diseases on serum lactate dehydrogenase and its isoenzyme patterns in calves.
In this study we examined the serum activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and its isoenzyme patterns in 28 calves of a lowland black spotted breed and its crossbreeds at the age of 2-6 months suffering from clinically noticeable manifested respiratory diseases--bronchopneumonia (BRD Group). As a control group we used 35 clinically healthy calves of the same age, breed and nutrition (Healthy G...
متن کاملDevelopment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and diffuse alveolar damage in 2-month old Holstein dairy calves following
Background: The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of hypoxia on intestinal permeability and cardiopulmonary physiology in 2-month old calves. Methods: Calves were exposed to normoxic (975 m altitude; controls) or hypoxic (4,570 m altitude) conditions for 2 weeks. Pulmonary arterial pressures and intestinal permeability to mannitol and lactulose were assessed on Days 0 and 14. Calves...
